The Palm Beach Kennel Club has served Palm Beach County in many ways over the past 75 years. As one of the nation’s finest racing facilities, the Kennel Club has supplied countless days and nights of entertainment to millions of fans.
PBKC’s impact in the community can be felt in many ways, both economically and socially.
The Rooney-family track is one of the area’s largest employers with a work force of over 600 and a payroll in excess of $9 million. PBKC also paid over $4.7 million in purses to contract kennels during the 2006-07 season.
The Kennel Club continues to be one of the area’s largest tourists attractions with over 700,000 visitors annually. And PBKC is one of the Florida’s largest taxpayers, contributing pari-mutuel, real estate and other taxes to the state’s coffers. The track also relies on area vendors for goods and services, benefiting local businesses. Over $15 million was spent in this area in 2007.
Since its inaugural year in 1932, PBKC has worked with the state of Florida to provide millions of dollars in contributions to various organizations in the form of scholarhips and charitable groups. Beneficiaries include: Greyhound Pets of America; Greyhound Adoption League; Community Foundation of Palm Beach and Martin counties; Hanly Hazelden, Inc.; Home Safe of Palm Beach County; Inner City Youth Getting There, Inc.; Lynn University; Palm Beach Community College Foundation; St. Mary’s and Good Samaritan Hospitals; WPEC TV’s Project Thanksgiving and countless other groups.
The Kennel Club has also supported the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Light the Night the last four years, encouraging employees to participate. Over $20,000 was raised in 2007.
PBKC also has hosted fund raisers for Children’s Golf Foundation, Palm Beach County Golf Association, and the Advertising Federation of the Greater Palm Beaches. In the past, PBKC has participated in the March of Dimes Walk America, Casual Day for MDA and the American Cancer Society 24-Hour Relay.
