Adopt
a Greyhound - Make a Fast Friend!
The Palm Beach Kennel Club is very interested in the welfare of
our greyhounds. And that interest remains long after the dogs' racing
days are over.
Greyhounds
who are retired need the love and compassion of an individual or
family that can care for them. And they make great pets; they are
gentle, friendly, affectionate and are easy to care for. Because
of their wonderful temperament, they are great with children. They
make excellent walking and jogging companions and easily settle
into a life of retirement.

The
Kennel Club works with Greyhound Pets of America and the Greyhound
Adoption League to find homes for retired greyhounds. Both groups
operate in similar fashion, screening and informing potential adoptees
in order to find the right dog for the right person or family. Both
are active in the community, participating in parades, festivals,
other functions like visiting hospitals, nursing homes and other
care centers. And both rely on numerous volunteers to help promote
this very good cause. These volunteers are frequent visitors to
the track, returning with their dogs to discuss the joys of greyhound
adoption with interested visitors.
We have had a long association with Greyhound Pets of America, created
by Wally and Emily Griffin, who founded the organization in the
mid-1980s. GPA has adopted thousands of greyhounds through the local
Florida Southeast Coast Chapter and through other chapters across
the country.Today the orginazation is run by hundereds of voulenteers.
The local GPA chapter has moved into a nice, new home with kennel
space for greyhounds, until they are adopted.
The Greyhound
Adoption League is still the new pup on the block, but boy, has
it grown fast. Founded by Alice and Ray Borchert in June, 1998,
the GAL has adopted close to 400 dogs. The GAL often is present
at local functions, including markets, sporting events and local
festival.
